Our Story

The story of the NA-Sri Lanka Outreach began in September 2013 when Carlyle Wells-Peris founded the Bayside Community Outreach to help those in need in his own community (Brisbane, Australia). During his efforts, the opportunity arose to help those in need in his country of origin, Sri Lanka.

With assistance from the Minister of Health and the Queensland Government, Carlyle took the opportunity to send medical equipment to the hospitals in Sri Lanka which lacked the basic requirements to treat their patients. The legacy of a brutal Sri Lankan civil war meant that The Outreach helped ensure the wellbeing for those in need in the Sri Lankan community.

Five container shipments of hospital equipment later, both Carlyle and his son Jarrod Wells-Peris were approached by their dear friend Niranga Amarasinghe to assist in this great cause by founding the NA-Sri Lanka Outreach - Kids in Need and combining forces with the Bayside Community Outreach. Niranga was born in Sri Lanka and naturally has a passion for helping Sri Lankan children as he was once a kid in need.

Fortunately, in Australia, Niranga and his parents was given a new life of opportunity. Due to Niranga’s incredible gratitude towards life, his thoughts are that he will never be able to repay Australia for their generosity but all he wants to do is give a little back to where he came from and make that place, Sri Lanka, a little better, one step at a time.

Niranga’s aim was to produce a clothing line to donate all profits for Kids in Need and to provide more container shipments to rural Sri Lankan hospitals, most notably Kandy Hospital which has a lot of personal meaning for Niranga and his family.

Through this effort, Niranga, Jarrod & Carlyle intend to provide better lives for the beautiful children, parents and grandparents of Sri Lanka in the same way Australia has provided them with a prosperous future.
